ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: AMY STEGGLES
Talent, determination and an amazing voice
Amy Steggles can sing. She can sing really, really well. When she sings, she sings opera.
Unfortunately, Amy doesn’t make a living from her singing. Consequently, she works full-time as a writer and uses her off-work time to train, practise, organize and promote her singing. Along with her partner, Amy is the guiding force behind a small, local company, Fear No Opera (FNO).
FNO is in the final stages of producing their second full-length opera, Così fan tutte.
I have had the pleasure of photographing Amy many times now. She makes my job easy because she is transformed when she steps on stage or in front of the camera. I never know what to expect, except for great photos and wonderful music.
With this latest production, I have been fortunate to be involved from the beginning. I shot the images that would be used for promoting the opera. This week, I attended an early rehearsal to capture some of the behind-the-scenes action. My final part in the production will be to photograph the dress rehearsal, the night before the one-and-only performance. I thoroughly enjoy shooting the dress rehearsals of FNO performances. The lighting is dramatic, everyone is in costume and the music is wonderful.
Here is to a great performance and a full house! And thanks Amy, you help motivate my own creativity.

Those are some really nice images, thanks for telling the story.
Thanks for reading! Glad that you enjoyed it. I’ll post photos from the performance in a couple of weeks.
