To speed up importing images into Lightroom Classic, I use software specifically designed for viewing/culling/selecting images. I open a memory card with Fast RAW Viewer, view large previews of images, select only the images I feel are possibly useful for me and copy them to a folder on my photos hard drive. I then import that folder into LR. This way, I only import useful images and speed up my post processing. FRV offers a trial period, so you can try before you buy.
