Barge on the beach

Unintentional sculpture washes ashore

Over a week ago, while I was otherwise occupied, two barges broke free from the tug towing them out of Victoria harbour.  I finally had the opportunity to visit one of the barges that was still aground on a local beach. Today, during another southeastern storm that pounded the grounded barge, I made a few photos.

This is naturally a beautiful location, but I couldn’t help feeling that it was somehow enhanced by this giant, inadvertent sculpture. Once it is removed and the area is cleaned up, the beach will return to it’s more natural state. However, it will lack a certain excitement.

Images captured with the Fujifilm X30.
