Images along the edge
It’s a new year and it’s time for a new post. While I think about posting and sharing images often, it hasn’t been a priority for some time. However, this seems like a great time to change that.
In the last number of years, I have relied upon Instagram for sharing my photography. Given the changes made by Meta in an appeasement to current political regimes, I am rethinking my use of Instagram and other social media. One change that I plan on making, is to use this site more often to share images.
Let’s start off the year, with a review of images made since the new year. January is typically a slow month for work, offering me the opportunity to make many more personal photos than usual. Fortunately, the weather has been largely cooperative and I have been out with my camera a lot.
As it turns out, and as no surprise to anyone, all of these images were made on the water or along the water’s edge. The on-the-water images were captured while paddling in the Salish Sea, where we get to see an amazing amount of wildlife. Most of the images captured along the water’s edge involve slow shutter speeds and probably some camera movement.
Thanks for reading and looking! I hope to see you in about a month.

A note about this image: I was riding my bike along the shoreline, in search of possible images, equipped with my GFX50S II, a couple of GF lenses, a variety of filters and a tripod, when I noticed that this piece of driftwood was well positioned for a photo op. The branch had been in the bay for a few weeks, changing position with each tide cycle. On this afternoon, it was poking out of the water at an appealing angle, with great side light. The tide was going out, so I had limited time to make an image, before too much of the branch would be exposed. However, with the water receding, I could position the camera low enough to compose the photo with the end of the branch above the horizon. I used an infrared 720nm and an ND filter to increase the exposure to four minutes, which did a good job of smoothing the water.

NB: All images captured with either a Fujifilm X-series camera or the GFX50S II, almost certainly fronted with Fujinon lenses.

Thanks Ted! Look for the next post soon.
beautiful imagery and presentation. Far richer content than IG, a platform I am also leaving behind for similar reasons. Look forward to your future editions here.
Thanks David! I appreciate the comment.
